«This is not only about studying, but also about an invaluable experience in your life»: Veronika Berdnikova is speaking about her academic mobility

Сегодня мы продолжаем делиться с вами отзывами студентов об участии в программах долгосрочной мобильности. Вероника Бердникова, студентка ОП «Политология и мировая политика», рассказала про свой опыт академической мобильности в Seoul National University (Корея).

«Так совпало, что мобильность исполнила сразу две мои мечты. Я много лет хотела побывать в Корее, потому что очень интересуюсь культурой этой страны. Благодаря мобильности в Сеульском национальном университете у меня получилось не только поучиться за границей, но и пожить в Корее четыре месяца.

Одна из главных причин, почему я выбрала именно Сеульский национальный университет – это хорошо составленный индивидуальный учебный план. На 3 курсе у меня в основном были предметы на выбор, поэтому я могла выбрать практически любые курсы для семестра по обмену, а один обязательный вышкинский предмет мне перенесли на следующий учебный год. Это очень удобно, потому что сессия в Сеульском перекрывает сессию в Вышке, нашим студентам не надо приезжать и сдавать вышкинские экзамены после мобильности. Мне повезло, что мое желание поехать в Сеульский совпало с технической возможностью туда отправиться.

Было немного страшно, потому что Корея находится очень далеко, туда трудно попасть и я понимала, что культуры наших стран очень разные. Мне было на тот момент 19 и это было неким вызовом, потому что я одна еду в незнакомую страну на большой промежуток времени. Наверное, тут мне помогло мое желание и моя мечта. Я понимала, что такая возможность в жизни может больше не представиться, морально собралась и решила ехать. Уже там я поняла, что все это того стоило, и теперь у меня есть опыт таких дальних поездок, я стала более самостоятельной.

Касаемо оправданных и неоправданных страхов, мои ожидания в принципе оправдались, потому что я многое знала о Корее заранее. Самая большая трудность там – это учеба. Я прекрасно осознавала, что в Сеульском учатся лучшие из лучших, знала, что корейский социум очень конкурентный, поэтому в конце поездки сильно скучала по Вышке. В Корее каждый студент сам за себя, все очень официально, в семестре сдаются два экзамена и выполняется множество работ. У нас такие нагрузки морально переносятся легче, потому что ребята друг другу помогают, а преподаватели всегда поддержат и подскажут. С другой стороны, это бесценный опыт, я смогла познакомиться с профессорами и студентами со всего мира. Я в каком-то смысле горжусь собой, потому что три предмета из четырех сдала на отлично, два из них на максимальный балл. Все было возможно и преодолимо.

Еще одно ожидание, которое оправдалось – это крутость Кореи. Страна уже лет 10 на слуху, и видеть вживую то, что ты раньше видел на картинках – очень здорово. В Корее очень хорошие люди, много иностранцев и есть чувство некой состоятельности, даже успеха. Сложилось множество факторов и было приложено большое количество усилий, чтобы Корея стала такой, какой она является сейчас. Я очень рада, что смогла на личном опыте убедиться, что все это существует. Эта поездка меня многому научила, я многое переняла от корейцев – этикет, трудолюбие, умение видеть красоту в простом и уважать окружающий мир.

Одно из самых интересных открытий — в Сеульском национальном университете более явно выражена культура совместных мероприятий. Много спортивных и творческих состязаний между факультетами. А еще студенты носили мерч своих программ: по курткам можно определить, где человек учится. Мне кажется, это дает университету чувство единства, но также показывает разнообразие образовательных направлений. Очень здорово, что в Сеульском студенты всех программ учатся в одном кампусе. Вуз расположен на горе, и он такой большой, что немного даже напоминает отдельный город.

Я была в Корее в весеннем семестре, поэтому застала цветение сакуры. Вишня распускается абсолютно везде, но есть удивительные места с аллеями цветущих деревьев. Я помню, как гуляла по одной из них с мыслью: все это нереально, такой красоты просто не может существовать. А когда дул ветерок, лепесточки медленно падали с деревьев и застилали дорогу розовым ковром. В тот момент я поняла – все трудности стоили того, чтобы я здесь оказалась. Я, наконец, учусь в лучшем университете Кореи и могу своими глазами видеть красоту этой замечательной страны, ее культуру и людей.

Это было лучшим подарком на мой 20-й день рождения.

Программа академической мобильности подарила мне много ярких впечатлений. Это возможность не только окунуться в другую учебную среду, но и попутешествовать. Я всегда буду благодарна Вышке за то, что на эту программу выбрали именно меня. Я буду бережно хранить все воспоминания и радоваться, что моя главная мечта сбылась.

Я очень надеюсь, что вы также решитесь податься на мобильность, потому что быть гражданином мира – очень важно. Эта поездка не только про учебу и трудности, через которые надо пройти, но и про бесценный опыт в вашей жизни. Вы не только разнообразите свою студенческую жизнь интересным путешествием, но и станете более зрелым человеком».

Today we continue to share with you students' feedback on participation in long-term mobility programs. Veronika Berdnikova, a student of the study program "Political Science and World Politics", told about her experience of academic mobility at Seoul National University (Korea).

«Coincidentally, student mobility made two of my dreams come true. I wanted to visit Korea for many years because I am very interested in the culture of this country. Thanks to the mobility at Seoul National University, I managed not only to study abroad, but also to live in Korea for four months.

One of the main reasons why I chose SNU was a well–designed individual study plan. In the 3rd year of study, I was able to take any courses at the host University, and I also postponed one compulsory HSE course to the next academic year. This is very convenient, because the exam session at SNU overlaps the session at HSE, so our students do not have to come back from the mobility and have another exam session at HSE. I was lucky that my desire to go to SNU coincided with the technical opportunity to study there.

I was a little scared to go to study in another country because Korea is very far away, it is hard to get there and I understood that the cultures of our countries are very different. I was 19 at the time and it was a kind of challenge for me, because I was going to an unfamiliar country alone for a long period of time. Probably, my desire and my dream helped me to overcome my fears. I understood that such an opportunity in life might not present in the future, I mentally gathered myself and decided to go. Already there I realized that it was all worth it, and now I have the experience of such long trips, I have become more independent person.

With regard to justified and unjustified fears, my expectations were justified in principle, because I knew a lot about Korea in advance. The biggest difficulty there is studying. I was well aware that the best of the best study at Seoul National University, I knew that Korean society is very competitive, so at the end of the trip I missed HSE a lot. In Korea, every student speaks for himself/herself, everything is very formal, during the semester two exams are taken and a lot of work is done. At HSE, we have such loads morally easier to bear, because we help each other, and professors always ready to support and help. On the other hand, it was an invaluable experience, I was able to meet professors and students from all over the world. I am proud of myself, because I passed three out of four courses perfectly, two of them for the maximum score. Everything was possible and surmountable.

Another expectation that has come true is the coolness of Korea. Seeing live what I've seen in pictures before was a nice feeling. There are very good people in Korea, a lot of foreigners and there is a sense of some kind of solvency, even success. There were many factors and a lot of efforts were made to make Korea what it is now. I am very glad that I was able to see from personal experience that all this exists. This trip taught me a lot, I learned a lot from Koreans – among other things, it is etiquette, hard work skill, the ability to see beauty in simplicity and respect the world around me.

One of the most interesting discoveries is that the culture of joint events is more popular at Seoul National University. There are a lot of sports and creative competitions between faculties. Students also wore the merch of their programs: you can tell where a person is studying by their jackets. I think it gives the university a sense of unity, but also shows the diversity of educational areas. It is great that students of all programs study at SNU on the same campus. The university is located on a mountain, and it is so big that it even resembles a separate city a little.

I was in Korea in the spring semester, so I caught a period of cherry blossom. Blooming trees are absolutely everywhere, but there are amazing places with alleys of them. I remember walking through one of these with the thought: all this is unreal, such beauty simply cannot exist. And when the breeze blew, the petals slowly fell from the trees and covered the road with a pink carpet. At that moment, I realized that all the difficulties were worth it for me to be there. I was finally studying at the best university in Korea and I could see with my own eyes the beauty of this wonderful country, its culture and people. It was the best present for my 20th birthday.

The academic mobility program gave me a lot of vivid impressions. This is an opportunity not only to plunge into a different learning environment, but also to travel. I will always be grateful to HSE for choosing me for this program. I will cherish all my memories and be glad that my main dream has come true.

This is not only about studying and the difficulties you have to go through, but also about an invaluable experience in your life.
