It’s a ritual we’re all used to: you open your eyes, roll over, grab your phone and start to scroll through your VK news feed. While you were fast asleep, thousands of interesting videos were posted and a new episode of your favorite show is not going to watch itself. Watching them is a great way to kill time, whether it’s when you’re commuting from one place to another, standing in line or in between classes. That’s why more than 80% of all video views come from mobile devices.
We’d like to give our video lovers a present: here’s a huge update to the VK mobile video player.
Enjoy the minimalist design. We tidied up the video player. With understandable navigation, you’ll be able to find any function you need in no time flat. The player’s smooth animation and a dark-colored menu will please the eye.
Fast-forward or rewind with one gesture. Finding particular moments or simply fast-forwarding or rewinding a video became a lot easier. By double-tapping the right or left sides of the screen, you fast-forward or rewind 10 seconds respectively. Now you can rewatch your favorite episodes with ease.
Watch the video at your own pace. If you’re having a last minute cram session right before an exam, you can speed up your video lecture to squeeze in that last bit of information you need to pass. You can also slow down conversations being held in a foreign language so that you can try to catch every word. Now videos will play as fast or slow as you want them to.
Choose the video quality. Video watchers and makers are paying more and more attention to video quality. 80% of videos on VK load with 720p or higher. By default, the video’s quality depends on the speed of your connection, but you can choose to watch videos in the highest quality whenever you want.
Make it full-screen, or go even bigger. Sometimes, even when a video is in full-screen mode, it doesn’t take up the whole display. Now with the tap of a button, you can enlarge a video with a non-standard format to fill up the screen and fill up the unused space. However, don’t feel that you’re limited to just your phones’ screen. You can stream videos from your iPhone on a TV using AirPlay technology.
Let our recommendations help you find new videos. Open any video, and you’ll see a collection of similar videos. In the new video feed, our recommendations don’t only allow you to lose track of time by getting lost in interesting videos, but you can also like the videos, follow the author, leave comments, share them with friends or save them to albums. Simply hit play, enjoy and continue scrolling.
Liven up your life and stay up to date with interesting events. We continue to improve our “Live stream” section. Now you can see viewers’ reactions right in the news feed, sorting by categories will help you navigate through the abundance of live streams out there and our algorithms will continue to get better at selecting videos to recommend to you according to your interests. We’ll soon release a bunch of updates that will make live streams better and even more comfortable to work with. Be sure not to miss it.
Watch videos with subtitles. Learn languages, create international versions of videos, watch videos on mute or start watching new releases, even if the Russian dubbing isn’t ready yet. Soon, any VK user will be able to add subtitles to their videos.
All of these new functions will be available in the upcoming Android and iOS updates, as well as on the desktop version of the website.
