The tournament's main stage takes place from August 7th-12th, and is preceded by group matches beginning August 2nd. The top 16 teams from around the world will compete for the title, and this year, the prize fund will be the largest in e-sports history with a grand prize of more than $10 million. Of note, CIS teams Virtus.pro and Team Empire will compete in the championship.

Last year's contest was the first live broadcasting test for VK prior to launching testing for the streaming platform. Previously, no e-sports event of this magnitude had ever been shown on social media. Now, VK users can not only stream the gaming process on social media, but they can also earn money for doing this.

VK regularly broadcasts major tournaments such as League of Legends (including the Regional Continental League - LCL), official Russian Cyberfootball Premier League, local and international World of Tanks championships, Warface and Crossfire, as well as the world-famous gaming expos E3, Gamescom and Igromir. In April 2016, over 3 million people followed the Kiev major on VK, which not only broadcast matches live but also prepared special editions of #VKLive on the tournament. These editions received over 27 million views.
