'I didn't build any expectations, as I didn't really know anything about Korea before. But now I would say that everything turned out even better than I could have imagined': Ekaterina Yakovenko is speaking about her mobility experience

Екатерина Яковенко, студентка 3 курса образовательной программы «Международный бакалавриат по бизнесу и экономике», рассказала об учебе в университете Kyung Hee University. По программе мобильности Екатерина провела весенний семестр в Южной Корее и с радостью делится своими впечатлениями!

• Были ли у тебя проблемы с подачей документов на обучение? Как проходил этот процесс и как много времени заняло ожидание?

Проблем с подачей не было, все критерии и даты отправки были расписаны в «ноушн», если возникали вопросы, Kyung Hee оперативно отвечали на почту. Подача была примерно с начала ноября до 15 января, часть документов надо было дополнительно отправить по почте hard copy.

• Удалось ли тебе найти общий язык со студентами принимающего вуза? Есть ли у тебя советы, как можно легче адаптироваться в новой среде?

Я нашла много друзей корейцев, но они скорее были иностранные корейцы (родились/выросли заграницей). Также я ходила в танцевальный кружок, где были девочки, которые могли и хотели общаться со мной на английском. Чтобы было легче адаптироваться, я советую участвовать везде, где есть возможность, если, конечно, есть желание :)

• Какую информацию о Южной Корее и ее культуре ты нашла наиболее полезной перед отъездом?

Перед поездкой я посмотрела культурные обычаи и правила (например, для уважения нужно подавать предметы двумя руками). Также, я бы посоветовала выучить какие-то фразы для небольшой коммуникации (так как взрослое поколение не говорит по-английски); посмотреть, где русское посольство, и запастись привычными медикаментами на случай болезни.

• Что было самым интересным за время твоей мобильности? Оправдались ли ожидания от поездки?

Мне кажется, самая большая и неотъемлемая часть - знакомства с людьми и путешествия. Я нашла много друзей и посетила огромное количество мест, что сделало поездку даже лучше!

Я не строила никаких ожиданий, так как не особо знала что-то о Корее до. Но сейчас я бы сказала, что все сложилось даже лучше, чем я могла бы это себе представить.

• Планируешь ли ты вернуться в Южную Корею для дальнейшей учебы или работы после получения диплома?

Да, я рассматриваю обучение в магистратуре в Сеуле или переезд для работы, поэтому продолжаю изучать язык.❤️

Students of the St. Petersburg HSE strive to get into the mobility program and spend a semester or even an entire academic year at a university in another country. Ekaterina Yakovenko, a third year student of the “International Bachelor's Degree in Business and Economics” educational program, shares her impressions of studying at Kyung Hee University in South Korea.

• Have you had any problems applying for education? How did this process go and how long did it take to wait?

There were no problems with the submission, all the criteria and dates of dispatch were scheduled in the notion, if there were any questions, Kyung Hee promptly replied to the mail. The submission was from about the beginning of November to January 15, some of the documents had to be additionally sent by hard copy mail.

• Have you managed to find a common language with the students of the host university? Do you have any tips on how to adapt to a new environment more easily?

I have found a lot of Korean friends, but they were more likely foreign Koreans (born/raised abroad). I also went to a dance club where there were girls who could and wanted to communicate with me in English. To make it easier to adapt, I advise you to participate wherever there is an opportunity, if, of course, there is a desire :)

• What information about South Korea and its culture did you find most useful before you left?

Before the trip, I looked at cultural customs and rules (for example, for respect, you need to hand over objects with two hands). Also, I would advise you to learn some phrases for a little communication (since the adult generation does not speak English); find out where the Russian embassy is, and stock up on the usual medications in case of illness.

• What was the most interesting thing during your mobility? Did the expectations of the trip come true?

It seems to me that the biggest and most integral part is meeting people and traveling. I made a lot of friends and visited a lot of places, which made the trip even better!

• Do you plan to return to South Korea for further studies or work after graduation?

Yes, I am considering studying for a master's degree in Seoul or moving to work, so I continue to study the language. ❤️
